Ryan Blaney won the race at Richmond. But there was more drama in the race than usual, as Jimmie Johnson spun out on Lap 164 and crashed into the high side of the track. Kyle Busch finished 16th and Jimmie Johnson collided with Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jimmie Johnson came 11th in the final race, but that's not to be blamed for the misfortune of the other drivers.

Ryan Blaney wins the race at Richmond

Ryan Blaney, who started from pole at Richmond Raceway in Stage 1, led all 70 laps of Stage 1 and was seventh. Blaney has now logged at least one lap during each of his eight race starts this season. He also earned one playoff points during Stage 1. Blaney was awarded the first spot in the series points standings and is now the number one driver. The NASCAR Cup Series continues at the half-mile Martinsville Speedway this Saturday.

Blaney leads on the restart, with roughly 50 laps remaining after pit stops. Blaney reports brake vibrations. He maintains his lead. The lead changes many times when the field pits to repair. Starting from the outside row, Denny Hamlin quickly moved to the front of field, passing Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Larson and Kevin Harvick. He passed Harvick to push past Byron. Finally, he held off Martin Truex Jr.'s late charge to take the checkered ribbon in front of Hamlin. Hamlin was awarded his 47th Cup Series victory. This is the most victories since 2016. Jeff Truex Jr. was also present, as well as Kyle Larson.


This victory was achieved in a year when the Toyota driver had just finished a slow start to his campaign. The race was held at Richmond Raceway, and he had been in the midst of a slow start in the standings. Kyle Busch is the No. 2 driver in the Camping World Truck Series, Richmond, Virginia. 18 M&M'S Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing. Busch has won seven races in Richmond since 2011, including the Playoff. At Atlanta Motor Speedway, he finished third. Kyle Busch is currently ranked eighth in this year's standings. Despite his recent defeat, Busch is still considered a candidate to win the series.

Kyle Busch was just two points behind the lead in his latest Richmond start, finishing 16th. This is Busch’s highest Richmond finish. He also has his sixth top-10 finish from six Xfinity Series races. He has one win, two top-10 finishes and five DNFs this season. Allmendinger, who has two top-10 finishes at Richmond this year, is the only active driver in the Xfinity Series.

Jimmie Johnson meets Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Jimmie Johnson collides in the Toyota Owners 400 with Dale Earnhartt Jr., and he apologizes. The driver claimed that his water bottle got lost and that the spotter had not called him. Earnhardt had been speeding down the track after the crash and was unable to stop before the impact. Dale Earnhardt Jr. did finish the race, however the crash marred his race.
